The NFT project Meebits has launched a collection of digital avatars, named Fútbol, in collaboration with the NFT marketplace OpenSea and the Yuga Labs-developed metaverse, Otherside.

According to a tweet by Meebits, Fútbol features blind-box digital avatars playable on the Otherside, with optional physical redemption. The collectibles went live for minting on OpenSea on February 26. However, by the time of writing, the mint had closed, and secondary market trading had begun.

Meebits said its Fútbol collectibles are event-specific, playable avatars that combine the excitement of blind-box toys with on-chain composability and NFT liquidity. The collection features 2,000 digital figurines, and Meebits has divided them into Groups 1, 2, and 3. Group 1 has six national teams, each with 10 players. Each player has a distinct look and jersey number, so collectors can build their squad to compete for prizes. Groups 2 and 3 will enter the tournament by spring.

For Meebits Fútbol Group 1, which concluded its mint yesterday, collectors will have the option to redeem physical toys by summer. Meebits will reveal the avatars and their countries by February 26 at 10 am EST. Afterwards, the project will launch the collectibles on the Otherside.

Following the launch on the Otherside, the project will host the Meebits Fútbol Cup. While the date is yet to be announced, the team clarified that Meebits collectors will take the pitch first. The prize pool will feature ten Meebits from the project’s treasury, with more to be announced later. Players who burn four avatars of the World Champion country can claim a Meebit as their prize.

It is worth noting that Meebits has also unveiled a Fútbol strategy: the project will use 50% of royalties from activities related to the collectibles to buy back and burn avatars in the collection. This plan aligns with the MEEBSTR playbook, which has reshaped the Strategy ecosystem.

Meebits has been in the news recently for exciting developments, with the launch of Fútbol collectibles being the latest. Earlier this month, the project partnered with the contemporary art fair Art Basel to launch limited-edition sculptures for its Qatar shop. Called The Falconer, the sculpture brought digital culture to the real world as Art Basel hosted its inaugural Qatar fair. A few months ago, Meebits also announced physical toy drops for its AI NFT holders.

Will Meebits announce more exciting updates in the coming weeks? Stay tuned to see how things unravel.
